Falcon 4 Forum Simulations Forum Falcon 4 Reviews BMS 4 Tutorial Falcon 4 Tutorial
Site mission statement
In this site you will find information that will make simulations as fun as possible. The tutorial will help those who have never played a flight simulator before how to find out what a fighter combat simulation is all about. It would also tell them where to go in the game to start having fun quickly.
The reviews will help a simulation player pick out the game that is most fun. In my opinion the game that is most fun is one that focuses on the gameplay and not on operating the cockpit. If all the main features in the cockpit are there like a radar that can be tilted upward/downward and doesn't find targets to easily, accurate missile physics, and functioning functional cockpit graphics where most of it is fully functional, then the gameplay experience should be what is most important. That is to say a simulation game should be about what has the best aerial combat, and not focus on the most exacting experience of every detail of operating the plane. The most important thing is its artificial intelligence. How smart and hard are the opposing enemy aircraft? Are they aggressive? Is there a lot of exciting action? The action you experience is what makes any game a good game.
Notice that I take a different approach. My approach is about getting the best game experience and not the best educational experience on flying a plane. Some are strict on realism. I think realism is only important only if it results in a qualitatively worse or better game. For instance, if most or important features of the cockpit or radar are missing, then that would be a qualtitatively different game. Such a difference isn't the case when comparing Falcon 4 Allied Force and Falcon 4 BMS 4. It depends on whether certain realism features are important to you or not. Depending on what I am in the mood for, I switch between the two games. I recommend reading "Which Version of Falcon Should You Play- Comparative Analysis" in the forum section of this website if you have not done so already.
Does any simulation have the whole package?
In my opinion, no one simulation has the whole package. Some people think that Falcon 4 BMS 4 has the whole package. I disagree. Neither version of Falcon 4 is better in every way. Falcon 4 Allied Force has better aircraft artificial intelligence, in my opinion. The enemy aircraft are better at firing at every wingmen in your flight while in BMS 4, they often don't target each aircraft including yours very aggressively. They also don't fire follow-up shots as aggressively as in Falcon 4 Allied Force.
BMS 4 has important cockpit features that Falcon 4 Allied Force does not have such as a targeting pod display with good enough graphics to be able to distinguish what type of vehicle it is.
BMS 4 also has an important feature in missile physics/dynamics. Active radar homing missiles need radar guidance corrections until they become active. The result of this is that the missile can lose lock with the right jamming and maneuver if they are far enough away.
Update!-BMS 4.33 has come out
BMS 4.33 is a leap frog improvement of Falcon 4. It is more than incremental. Check out the reviews section for a review of BMS 4.33.
What about oldies but goodies?
A lot of old games have features that newer games do not. They have features or gameplay style that cannot be found elsewhere. For instance, the Fair Strike helicopter combat game is a hybrid of a realistic game and a story based action game. Check out the reviews section to find if they are games that are underappreciated or forgotten about and whether that makes them worth playing. An old game may have a important simulation or game aspect that can not be found elsewhere.
